Sue and Wanda leave early
Sue Murray & Wanda Holcombe will be traveling on a pre-journey to The Baltics and then joining the UMW Ubuntu team in Vilnius, Lithuania for the week. We are very pleased to be meeting with United Methodist women and UMC members in both Tallinn, Estonia and Riga, Latvia. We fly out Monday, May 5th (Wanda’s 74th birthday) from Dallas to Frankfurt and then onto Tallinn, Estonia. We will be staying in the old part of Tallinn and look forward to exploring and learning about their culture and current local concerns in the spirit of Ubuntu: an ancient African word meaning 'humanity to others'. It also means 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. And is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity".
After three days in Vilnius, they will fly onto Riga, Latvia with the same purpose of their journey and meeting with UMC members. Sue and Wanda have been long time friends since their husbands were roommates at Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas and have worked together on mission teams over the years to the Philippines, Turkey, and Cameroon, Africa. Both have been long time supporters of the UMW and their mission to the world of caring. Last summer Wanda and Sue traveled to Ireland on a Heritage trip and are pleased once again to be travel mission mates again.
